Welcome to another edition of Po Politickin. In this episode, we politick with Boston rapper EK. Growing up in Nigeria, EK realized he was always an outgoing child, able to articulate himself through his words. At the age of 10, EK moved to the United States. Living in an unfamiliar land, he connected with the wrong crowds and constantly struggled to defend his heritage. EK was arrested at 14, and the shocks of possible imprisonment made him realize that he needed to change his ways and find another outlet for his emotions. EK took out a pen and paper and began to write. Currently, EK is collaborating with Ryan Sparker, the co-writer of Eli Reed’s album “Nights Like This”. EK regularly appears at music venues throughout the Boston area including Church, the Strand Theater, and Bentley College. EK’s music has been broadcast on radio stations including 88.9 WERS in Boston, and he has appeared on BNN TV’s “Shine” program. EK says, “I want my music to tell my life’s story and speak of my challenges adapting to a world that knows how to stop dreaming. Welcome to another edition of Po Politickin. In this episode, we politick with Wrongking rapper, producer, and engineer V8. V8 was born and raised in Pasadena, CA and got involved in the street life as a teen, when he became a member of the Pasadena Denver Lane Bloods. At 19 he was hit with a 2 year prison sentence and some time after his release starting focusing on his music full-time. About 3 years ago he caught the attention of Mitchy Slick who took interest in his musical style and made him an official member of Tha Wrongkind. Since then, V8 has put out 4 or 5 mixtapes, the most recent being “Pasadena State of Mind.” Within the last year or so he became a certified music engineer, so on top of rap he also produces, mixes, and masters a lot of his own music. Replacing swift left and right hooks for hooks in captivating compositions, Born 2 Win Entertainment Recording Artist “Chaos” who was born Jameel Laboo, is the next contender fully prepared to compete for Hip Hop distinction. A proficient boxer, the New Jersey native used boxing as a stress reliever until he realized music enabled him to do the same thing and that it was his true calling. Chaos began writing music as a way to just get his feelings out. But after hearing the late Tupac Shakur it became his dream. Growing up in Newark, New Jersey wasn’t easy. He was exposed to the many hardships of his rough, poverty stricken neighborhood. His father was a drug addict which led his mother to take on the responsibility of being a father as well. His mother worked very hard to provide for her children but she wasn’t able to keep up with the mounting bills.Chaos decided to help his mother and took to the streets very young. Newark is a city listed as one of the deadliest places in the world was his home. But he always used music as his get away from his reality. The neighborhood loved to hear him rap, so his hood fame grew fast. But unfortunately his criminal cases did as well. Chaos lost trial, and had his 1st child in the same year. As he sat in prison he knew he had to make a big decision. And upon his release that’s what he did. Go hard with his music and raise his daughter.
