Joey Supratta
J.Hustles

Thanks for stopping by to politick with us. I was reading that you are originally from the Cali area?  Can you discuss your background and how you and Joey wanted to do music?

J.HUSTLES:

I was born and raised in the greater LA area living everywhere from Hollywood, Echo Park and Pacoima and finally making North Hollywood my home home. All I ever really wanted to do was music, listening to music was really the one and only release I had growing up. My house was the spot, the spot where my step dad’s jazz musician friends would rehearse, party and pass out either drunk or with a needle still in thier arm, it was the spot the police would raid almost weekly when my Waylon Jennings listening step dad number 2 would be wanted for robbing a bank or a burglary, it was the dope spot where my mom’s cholo homies would listen to oldies and slang drugs. But no matter what craziness was going on there was a soundtrack to it. And now I can literally here a song that goes with every situation that I encounter.

JOEY SUPRATTA:

I was born & raised in Los Angeles. Music has always been a big part of my life and as I grew up it became something I took more seriously. From freestyling at parties in front of 50+ people any chance i could to recording in the same studios some of my idols record at. Music has and always will be my first love.

How did you link up with Shady artist Westside Boogie?

J.HUSTLES:

It’s was dope, it happened real fast and real organic. We connected with Boogie on a Monday and hit it off, we chopped it up and shot him the record on Wednesday, the record didn’t exist on Tuesday but when a dude like Boogie says hes open to doing a record with you you get that record done ASAP, so we did the record on Tuesday night and he had it back to us on Friday which is still crazy to me, this dude was in album mode for himself, doing shows and still did this record with us in 2 days. His only stipulation was “I’m in album mode but if the record hot I got you” he heard the record and said “the record is fire, I got you” and he killed it!

JOEY SUPRATTA:

It was something that came together so perfectly and was meant to be. Boogie wanted to hear the record and said “If it’s dope I got you”. After he heard it he had the verse back to us in 2 days.

Can you talk about your artist name?

J.HUSTLES:

It’s kinda funny, I had a couple “nicknames” that I went by but the one thing that was always there was my ability to make things happen so I used to joke when people asked what I did, I’d say I Hustle then some of the homies would joke and be  like there’s Jay, he hustles and laugh and it just stuck, I became J.HUSTLES.

JOEY SUPRATTA:

My artist name is something that just came to me one day. Without questioning I just ran with it. Ironically after some time I realized how similar it was to the italian word “sopratutto” which means: “Above All”. My whole demeanor is to be the very best and shine “Above All” so it’s something that worked out perfectly.

Who do you look up to and who helps you out manage your career?

J.HUSTLES:

Growing up I looked up to anyone that beat the odds, anyone that didn’t make excuse for their situation and use it as way to justify failure. Ive pretty much for the most part handled my career my self. Until recently I would just hire people to do specific jobs when I needed them done but I would oversee everything. Now being in business with Joey Supratta things have changed, he’s kind of a one stop shop, from production to mixing to artwork, videos and everything in between he makes this music making process very easy.

JOEY SUPRATTA:

Over my career I’ve looked up to a lot of different artists and individuals but I manage my entire career myself. I handle everything myself while also running an independent music label which consists of 7 other artists.

Who is your most dedicated and loyal fan? (Excluding family members)

J.HUSTLES:

I’ve had a lot of really loyal supportive people ride with me for a long time.

JOEY SUPRATTA:

It’s hard to say who my most dedicated fan is. I’ve seen a lot of support over these years. There are definitely a few who consistently show their support and I’ll always have love for that. I appreciate every single one of my fans and I hope to continue gaining many more throughout the world on this journey.

Can you discuss your current projects and plans for 2022?

J.HUSTLES:

Right now the push on this record is priority. We hope with everything opening back up there will be more shows in the near future. New music early in 2022 for sure.

JOEY SUPRATTA:

Music. Music. Music. That’s what I’m focused on. No specific project plans just yet but I do know I’ll be working on a lot of new music. For 2022 I also want to focus on more visuals. As long as I’m being creative all year long I’ll be happy.

Can you describe the new single “For Real”? Is there a music video for it?

J.HUSTLES:

Joey Supratta really described the record well.

For me I’d really hope that what I’m going through and willing to talk about publicly will help somebody get through they’re own stuff knowing they’re not alone. I talk shit and brag on records like everybody else but sometimes it’s cool for the listener to get the human side of the artist as well. I definitely feel like all of us did that on this record. As of now there’s no video but I would love to get the visuals for this record done.

JOEY SUPRATTA:

“For Real” is the record for those who feel that weight on their shoulders. For the ones who won’t give up. For the ones who need to remind everyone just what it is they do. It takes you through the emotions of digging deep all while keeping it real. The raw and uncut lyrics from each artist, the smooth and emotional production, the catchy and captivating hook at the end, all come together to make a dope record. Currently we have no music video but I’d definitely be open to doing one if J.Hustles & Westside Boogie wanted

What do you do when your not rapping?

J.HUSTLES:

When I’m not writing in music I’m pretty much just chillin with my 6 year old daughter and my 4 year old niece that I have custody of, I talk about them in the song. I also chill with my lil homie Bruce (my French bulldog) as much as I can and I watch a lot of basketball, I’m huge NBA fan. Go LAKERS!

JOEY SUPRATTA:

When I’m not rapping, I’m usually doing something creative. You might find me producing a few beats or messing around on my mpc, filming and editing some footage, writing a script, or even taking photos. Being creative is one of my favorite things to do. That being said, everyone needs some time to unwind so when all the creative work is done I love to spend time with my family. Lets not forget Don Corleone said it best.. “A man who doesn’t spend time with his family can never be a real man”

Have you worked with any known MC’s/Producers,etc already?

J.HUSTLES:

I have, I’ve worked with producers Focus… From Aftermath and Press play from 100 ENT. I’ve done songs with the YoungBloodz, Fatlip from Pharcyde, SoSo Def artist Hot Dollar and the incomparable MC Juice that battled and beat Eminem at Skibble Jam, he also has taken on just about everybody the Wake Up show has thrown his way.

JOEY SUPRATTA:I have. I’ve worked with a lot of big time producers and artists. Had productions from Diego Farias (RIP Big Homie) & Andres Farias who both have worked with countless major artists. I’ve had an entire project produced by Raad Soudani (Bassist for Volumes). As far as artists go, my first big record with a featured artist was a song called “No Ghosts” and it featured Ras Kass. That record was talked about in numerous blogs as well as aired on Shade 45 with Dj Statik Selektah. My next big record that had a feature was a record called “Note To Self” and that had an artist by the name of Demrick on it. (Demrick is part of a hip hop group called Serial Killaz. Members include Xzibit, B-Real, Demrick). And of course my latest record with Shady Records artist Westside Boogie.

I notice both of you have IMDB pages, how did those come about?

J.HUSTLES:

I’ve done numerous songs for different tv shows and films over the years from NBC’S Las Vegas to MTV’S Ridiculousness. My songs have been heard on major networks, cable and indy films. Most recently I did 7 songs for a feature film called “After the reign” where the lead actor that didn’t rap lipsynced my songs throughout the movie.

JOEY SUPRATTA:

I was on TLC’s show 90 Day Fiance which aired in 2020. Hollow Brooks, (Supratta Records VP)was one of the main cast members for season 7 and being one of his closest friends he wanted me on the show with him. Those credits on IMDb are from acting as myself (Joey Supratta) and having my music aired on the show.
