I’m launching a new label with an album featuring Method Man, Pharrell Williams, Big K.R.I.T, Styles P, and Redman among others.

About
I’m Erick Sermon, but if you’re of a certain age you may know me as the Green-eyed Bandit, or as part of the pioneer hip-hop duo EPMD, or as the original member of Def Squad crew. You may also know that I wrote or produced the music on many of the hip-hop hits of the 80s and 90s, that helped put New York on the rap map.

Now Def Squad is back with a bang, starting with a new album featuring some of the top names of today like Pharrell Williams, Ghost Face, Redman, Styles P, Too Short and Big K.R.I.T. to name a few.

New album

The new album is titled “Go” because we want to get maximum exposure from the word go! Besides the artists already mentioned, we’re lucky to have my old collaborators Method Man and Keith Murray on board, along with AZ, Craig Mack, Mr. Cheeks, Devin The Dude, Rockwilder, Rico Barrino, and Kid Capri. We’re also excited to welcome newcomers Try Bishop, Katelyn, and PWise.

We have 8 tracks in the can so far, and plan to add another 3 so there’ll be 11 in total on the album. I’m a fast worker so it will be ready by the spring, so watch this space…

As a taster, one of the new tracks is called Southern Girl and features Pharrell and Big K.R.I.T. It was inspired by my Mom – who grew up in Alabama and Florida – and I like to think that everyone is a Southern girl at heart.

New Label

The album will be launched on my new independent label – Def Squad Records – because the music business is very different from how it was back in the 80s and I want to give up-and-coming artists a platform to show what they can do. And at the same time we want to give you, the fans, what you want in the way of music, not what some ivory-towered record company executive thinks you want.
