Welcome to another edition of PoPolitickin. In this episode, we politick with Portland, Oregon hip hop artist Free5ive.

Growing up in inner city Portland, Free5ive’s passion for music started at an early age. He developed a love for many genres of music including hip hop, R&B , funk, classic rock, and country music. Although, while growing up his first love was basketball, he began to use music to express himself as he battled the impoverished gang infested environment that surrounded him. During adolescence 5ive dealt with legal issues and eventually began writing raps to help deal with the anger he felt towards the world. By age 17, 5ive had already recorded numerous remixes to industry classics and a began to record a catalog of original tracks, with heavy influences from Tupac, 50 cent and Lil Wayne.

Fast forward six years and a new generation of creatives talents are emerging out of Portland. 5ive now 23, credits his success and perfection of his craft to close friend, Warner Brother’s recording artist and Portland’s own TYuS (who appears on Free5ive’s newly released single “Can’t Trust”). Free5ive is motivated to show the world that he’s ready for his turn in the light.. He boast “The time is now, I’ve spent long enough wondering what if!”
