McKayla Maroney is not your average up and coming artist.
You may know her name from her success as a world-class athlete; winning a Gold Medal in the 2012 Olympics as part of the “Fierce Five” Gymnastic powerhouse. Since her departure from the sport in 2016, Maroney has had success in the acting world with appearances on the CW series “Hart Of Dixie” as well as the Fox hit “Bones,” but she found her true passion lies in music. Locked away, studying and honing her latest craft, McKayla is ready to shock the world again, but this time as a musician.
Overcoming many adversities in her young life, including being a leading figure in the #MeToo Movement while helping put abuser Larry Nassar behind bars, McKayla continues to prove any doubters wrong while transitioning into her new career. With the COVID-19 pandemic locking down most of the music industry McKayla decided now is the perfect time to release new music and introduce the world her rap alter-ego. With assistance from LA-based Producer/Engineer/Artist JIG LeFrost, “COVID Lockdown” features Maroney displaying her playful rap tones with impressive singing abilities. A mixture of The Clipse and Gwen Stefani sonically – LeFrost, McKayla, and producer Uncle Max Beats combine for a sneaky, head-nodding single.
“COVID Lockdown is one of those songs I’d usually just keep for myself and never release, but every time I listen to it, it makes me laugh.. and I think we could all use a laugh right now,” McKayla explained. “It all happened supernaturally, and I just didn’t feel like fighting it. I freestyled over a Drake type beat in my car, just venting about my life, and It ended up sounding not half bad. I knew if I was going to finish it, I’d want JIG Lefrost on it with me. He, of course, he pulled up to my recording space and killed it, so here we are.”

With artists trapped at home with little to no ability to create, now is the time to see who’s art will be recession-proof and it’s looking like McKayla Maroney is here to stay. Following up her first official single, “Wake Up Call,” McKayla shows her diversity and range as an artist with “COVID Lockdown” combined with the fire bonus single “Spose To Do” produced by Uncle Max.
Press play on “COVID Lockdown” by McKayla Maroney with additional vocals from JIG LeFrost and production by LSC now available on all digital streaming outlets.

More Info On McKayla

“My name’s McKayla Maroney, and now that I have music out I can finally consider myself a real artist. You might remember me from the 2012 Olympics where my team and I won Gold. Gymnastics was my first love. It broke my heart having to move on, but thankfully music was there to catch my fall. No pun intended. I retired from Gymnastics in 2015, moved out, and went off to pursue my new and improved dream. Making music! Little did I know I was about to go through the bumpiest 3 years of my life.
In October, of 2017 I spoke out and joined the beloved Me Too movement. I didn’t talk about it much, but during this time I was really not well. I just wanted to pursue music, and become someone new, but I felt frozen in my old life, digging up memories I never wanted to think about, let alone talk about in front of the world, but in order to put the monster doctor in jail, I had to keep fighting.
January 24th, 2018, Nassar, my doctor, was sentenced to 175 years in jail. 2019 felt like it was going to be an important year for me!! The kindof year you never forget. It was. January 13th, 2019, my dad Michael Maroney passed away. I COULD NOT CATCH A BREAK, YOU GUYS. I SWEAR.
But it’s ok! I’m here now, and I’m finally ready! I have a long way to go till I reach my goals with music, but right now I’m honestly just enjoying the journey.
Hope I can make some music you love” ♥️ -McKayla
