Song Review

Rez Burna’s new single “Vice Versa “is a remake of the classic Pastor Troy 2001 song. While Pastor Troy rhymed about “What if Heaven was Hell and Vice Vera”, Rez rhymes about, “What if Niggaz were White and White people were Black”. Rez explains that he’s not talking about skin color but what if Whites had to endure the same types of racism faced by Blacks. Inspired by the constant racial tension in America, Burna delivers a powerful motivating message that many more hip hop artists should follow. In the song, Rez discusses debated issues such as slavery, Jesus, police brutality, and President Obama
My only knock is it sounds as if Rez is using some type of sound effect/autotune on the track. I believe the message in this song is powerful enough that the song would have been better without it. Overall, I enjoyed listening to this song and I think it has a great message. Take a listen and judge for yourself.

Biography:
Rez Burna, born Reuben Perez McCon, has been working hard on creating his own lane. He released his debut mixtape Burnapocalypse in September of 2010. He followed with the powerful single “Supercali” featuring Waka Flocka Flame, and is only getting better with each new song he writes. Rez’s ability to write memorable hooks is evident from the first listen to any of his songs, and he aspires to write for pop and R&B artists.

“The artist that I’ve looked up to the most has to be Lil Wayne by far. I’ve heard a lot of people mention how they grew up on 2Pac or Biggie, but I grew up on the Hot Boys, Big Tymers, and No Limit Records. It’s one of my dreams to one day work with Lil Wayne, B.G., Juvenile, and Mannie Fresh.”

In the end, it’s Rez Burna’s respect for the power of music that pushes him to create every day. It’s bigger than Hip Hop, and Rez knows that this is his destiny.

“I want to be the best at whatever I’m passionate about, and music is most definitely one of those things. If my music can make a positive change in this world then I’m doing what I sought out to do. Sometimes I’m Farrakhan behind a mic, but I know how to have fun with it too. Versatility isn’t an issue for me.”
